BASF Uncertain to Cooperate with Huntsman's MDI Expansion Project

PUdaily, Shanghai- Huntsman's capacity plan of expansion is in progress, said Huntsman. They also noted that the negotiation between BASF is undergoing. Market players analyze the cooperation between Huntsman and BASF is greatly determined by the final confirmation of BASF Chongqing facility. It is very possible Huntsman will become independently undertaker for the Lianheng Shanghai's expansion project on condition of successful implementation of 400ktpa MDI project in Chongqing. Huntsman's MDI capacity in Chinese market thereafter will be rapidly increased.
The potential situation also implies Chinese market will witness four giants Yantai Wanhua, BASF, Bayer and Huntsman compete on MDI stage. Sources said Huntsman's 400ktpa MDI project is still under government approval.
