July 21, 2025 — Ramos Arizpe, Mexico
In a major stride toward circular manufacturing and sustainable materials management in Latin America, German engineering firm H &S Anlagentechnik and global home furnishings supplier Ikano Industry have commissioned their second joint polyurethane (PU) recycling facility in Mexico.

The newly operational plant, located in Ramos Arizpe, is operated by Ikano Industry’s Mexican division and is designed to process post-industrial PU foam waste into high-quality recycled polyol. This recovered polyol can replace up to 50% of virgin polyol in mattress foam production, without compromising quality. In applications such as upholstered furniture, even higher substitution rates are achievable.

This project builds on the companies’ successful track record of sustainable initiatives in Europe. Notable examples include the RENUVA™ recycling plant in France and the Retour Matras facility in the Netherlands, both launched between 2022 and 2024. These plants recycle end-of-life mattresses, contributing to a growing infrastructure for PU circularity.

“This plant demonstrates our commitment to global sustainability and innovation in polyurethane recycling,” said Mila Skokova, Deputy Managing Director Sales at H&S Anlagentechnik. “Our collaboration with Ikano Industry continues to be a strong and visionary partnership that enables scalable circular solutions across continents.”

Daniel Romecki, Director of R&D for Poland and Mexico at Ikano Industry, added: “We are proud to expand our sustainability efforts to Latin America. Together with H&S, we are taking another major step in reducing waste and closing the loop in PU foam production.”

The opening of this second plant underscores the vital role of international collaboration and long-term industrial partnerships in advancing circular economy technologies. By establishing local recycling capabilities, H&S and Ikano Industry aim to reduce environmental impact, support regional value chains, and set new sustainability benchmarks in the global PU sector.
