Olin and Mitsui Mutual Decision to End Their Joint Venture

PUdaily | Updated: September 20, 2025

Sept. 18, 2025 -- Olin Corporation, a global leader in Ethylene Dichloride (EDC) supply announces a transition in its participation in the vinyls value chain. As highlighted during its Investor Day last December, Olin will evolve its EDC participation by emphasizing longer-term structural opportunities that enhance value and optionality.

As part of this evolution, Olin Corporation and Mitsui & Co., Ltd. have reached a mutual decision to end their joint venture, Blue Water Alliance JV, LLP (BWA), by the end of this year. Olin and Mitsui will continue to collaborate on strategic opportunities under a more flexible framework that supports Olin's evolving EDC participation.

"This decision will accelerate Olin's commitment to broaden our chlorine derivatives optionality, reduce our spot exposure to the merchant EDC market, and grow our vinyls participation," noted Deon Carter, President Olin Chlor Alkali Products & Vinyls. "Our partnership with Mitsui was an innovative alliance that connected the global needs of the industry during its tenure. We maintain a strategic relationship with Mitsui, a valued and important industry partner."

BWA customers can expect a seamless transition as Olin remains committed to providing industry-leading services, value, and trading management for its full product portfolio, including EDC and Caustic Soda.
