Southeast Asia

Southeast Asia (hereinafter referred to as SE Asia) polyols market runs weakly in the second half of July with many countries reporting fierce price competitions among major suppliers in the region. Market price for slab polyols from SE Asia suppliers stand at around USD 1,350-1,400/ton CIF for drum, and polymer polyols (hereinafter referred to as POP) at around USD 1,650-1,750/ton CIF in drum. As for South Korea cargoes, price fluctuates at around USD 1,500/ton, POP at USD 1,650-1,700/ton, and HR polyols at USD 1,550/ton, all for CFR Asia; with the upcoming G20 summit some suppliers are likely to hike price for around USD 20/ton to test the market.

In Indonesia, the polyols market business activities actually begin to be active since the week of July 18 and market is reported to be stable with prices from Singapore and Thailand suppliers being around USD 1,250-1,300/ton CIF in bulk, and USD 1,300-1,350/ton CIF in drum, as per local distributors. On the other hand, according to some traders, prices for some brands reduce to Rupiah 20,900/kg (around USD 1,600/ton), delivered to customers with 60 days terms, down for Rupiah 600/ton compared to early July, which may not be workable for broad market, besides, foam producers are also expecting the price to go down continuously as the local currency has strengthen in the recent weeks. “Competition is the same problem as in Malaysia. That is why suppliers are reducing the price, and we do not see any price increment yet in the market”, as per a local trader.
